Many European countries have the distinctive glacial landscape: undulating hills and valleys, ribbon lakes, piles of moraines in the oddest imaginable places. But here in Iceland, we can still see what shaped these landscapes in action. The sheer sizes of these frozen bodies of water are staggering. To be able to stand on a piece of glacier that has stood for millennia projected a real sense of awe within us.
