King/Queen of the aphids

Possibly the least glamorous of my subjects to date, this aphid. Fittingly, it chose to land on a equally blue-collared perch, an ear plug (a Moldex 7800 no less, noise reduction 35db).
I’ve never really looked very closely at aphids. Over the years, hundreds must have met their demise at my hands, for their fragile bodies were not built to withstand compressive forces.

Beauty resides in the most unlikely places, who’d have known that the tiny winged annoyances, could have such majestic antennae?!

      1. Macro lenses are a bit too expensive, I only have a set of extension tubes, these are really handy and convert the kit lens into a decent macro lens.
I had assumed that you used a DSLR for your blog posts, they are really good shots!

      2. Interesting, sounds like a good solution. Lenses are indeed expensive… Until now I’ve been using a small Nikon Coolpix S8200 but it has some serious limitations, especially for moving targets like birds, so I’d like to experiment a little with a DSLR. I sure appreciate the compliment 🙂

      3. Ahah experienced with a compact camera! I think compacts are very good nowadays, it’s quite amazing the quality you get for such little money.

        Let’s see with a DSLR, I hope I won’t suck too much 😀
